Go to the member renewal page and fill your information in; we’ll take care of the rest.
I want to support The Sprawl but I don’t have a credit card. Can I use any other forms of payment for my membership?
Unfortunately, our payment processing platform is a bit restrictive and doesn’t take some forms of payment, like prepaid credit cards and debit cards.
However, there are some options for supporting us without a credit card:

How do I cancel my Sprawl membership?
Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line Cancel Membership and we’ll deactivate your account for you. We promise we won’t make you sit through a guilt trip or do anything else annoying. Our payment processing platform is built in such a way that this is actually much faster and easier for everyone than if we allow members to manage their own accounts.
What does my Sprawl membership get me, anyway?
The short answer is nothing; absolutely nothing! None of our web content is behind a paywall. What you get when you sign up as a Sprawler is more or less the same as what you get as a non-member.
We don’t want to trick our audience into putting down their money by dangling promises of flashy swag and exclusive content. We’d much rather you support us because you believe in the value of local, ad-free, independent journalism, and because you want to be part of a community of people that feel the same way.
That said, we will sometimes say thank you by offering our members small perks. For instance, if you’d like one of the original Sprawl tees (and you don’t mind stopping by our office to pick it up), we’ll give it to you for free if you’re a member.
And of course, if you sign up as a member you get added to the mailing list for our Saturday Morning Sprawl newsletter, where we round up the new Sprawl stories from that week and give you the odd sneak peek at upcoming events, projects and opportunities.
How do I switch my membership from Patreon?
We've got a handy-dandy guide on how to switch your Sprawl support from Patreon to our new platform, Neon, which defaults to CAD rather than USD and charges us lower fees. When you switch over, more of your contribution goes directly to local journalism, as we're charged less in fees with the new system than we are by Patreon.
Can I keep my membership on Patreon?
Absolutely. If you’d prefer to keep supporting us on Patreon, we’re not going to kick you off. We’d love it if you’d update your currency to CAD, though. Here’s how:
- On Patreon.com, hover over your avatar in the top right of your screen.
- Click Manage Memberships.
- From this page, click Edit.
- Under Currency, choose your preferred currency.
- Click Update to save your settings.
For those of you outside of Canada, you can also change to pay in your currency of choice (where supported: Patreon's supported currencies), which will help you avoid foreign transaction fees.
